The NHL trade deadline, while an exciting time of the hockey season -no doubt - always leaves some with broken hearts as their favorite players depart for new adventures.
This year however, though we saw Cody Eakin and Malcolm Subban head off on those fresh starts in Winnipeg and Chicago, respectively, we sure picked up a whole lot more than we lost. We saw Vegas Golden Knights management make massive moves toward improving this team, and saw our chances of winning the Stanley Cup shoot up far past previously expected.
Here is a recap of who we picked up, from where and at what cost:
Defenseman Alec Martinez from LA Kings, Kings acquire Golden Knights 2nd Round Pick in 2020 and St. Louis Blues 2nd Round Pick in 2021.
Forward Cody Eakin sent to Winnipeg Jets, Vegas Golden Knights receive a conditional 2021 4th round pick. The pick becomes a 3rd rounder if Winnipeg makes the playoffs or re-signs Eakin.
Forward Nick Cousins from Montreal Canadiens, Canadiens acquire a 2021 fourth round pick.
Goaltender Robin Lehner and forward Martins Dzierkals from Chicago Blackhawks, Blackhawks acquire goaltender Malcolm Subban, prospect Slava Demin and a 2020 second round pick.
Defenseman Nick Holden signs a 2-year extension with the Vegas Golden Knights at a $1.7million AAV.
It will be quite interesting to see how these changes shape our team. We will begin to integrate these actions as soon as Wednesday's division match up against the Edmonton Oilers!
